To work in Australia, It's a requirement that trades people have attained the required GAP between their country of origin, and Australia, and are granted the appropriate trade licence.
Downunder Tradies Group in conjunction with the Swinburne University, have developed a GAP Training course to meet these requirements which is held in our London facility. Below I've outlined the process involved.
The entire program is divided into 2 parts; Part A-Offshore-London; Part B-Onshore-Australia.
Part A consists of a 4 week block course (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) incorporating theoretical and practical components, as per the attached program.
Part B consists of 12 months on the job training in Australia under the supervision of a licensed contractor. During the 12 months, the candidates are required to complete profiling cards, which successfully demonstrate competence in:
Participants who have successfully completed Part A AND Part B can then apply for their Certificate III Plumbing qualification through Swinburne University, and apply for Journeyman Registration.
To be eligible, the candidates must have an Off Shore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) issued by Vetassess, (Vocational Education Training and Assessment Services) who have been appointed by the Australian Government to assess the skill knowledge of foreign trades people-

The course has been developed to enable the candidates to arrive in Australia with the AS/NZ3500 knowledge required to work successfully within the industry, thus making yourself more attractive to potential employers/sponsors.
As most of you are aware, there are many different pathways to your new life in Australia. The program caters to a wide range of migrants and there are a multitude of visas available. Each of these has specific requirements and criteria, so it's important that you make an educated and informed decision.
Below is a broad outline for you to start considering.
General Skilled Migration These are the traditional points based visas that allow you to claim points for a number of various criteria, ranging from age to your partner's skills. The points required range from 100 to 120, depending on the visa class being applied for. This group includes the state sponsored visas as well as the family sponsored and the independent categories.
Employer Led Migration There are a number of options available to Australian employers to source international talent and sponsor both temporary and permanent residence visas for people that they wish to employ. Employer led migration is growing rapidly in popularity with migrants and employers alike, and are also given processing priority at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. As a result, some of these visas can be finalised in a matter of weeks as opposed to the years taken with some of the General Skilled Migration options.
The next Plumbing Gap Training program is scheduled for 23rd September. The course cost is £3,000.00.
